Usain Bolt- Motion Blur

Stage 1

My first step when creating this motion blur of Usain Bolt crossing the finish line was to add the motion blur onto the original image, this gave the impression that the entire image was moving at speed which is true as it is a still of the 100m final in the 2012 Olympics.

Stage 2

My next step was to add an iris blur to the image, originally I felt that the motion blur didnt add enough emphasis on Usain Bolt because the entire image has been blurred to the same effect and therefore Usain Bolt doesnt stand out as the elite athlete.

Stage 3

The next step I took was to resize the iris blur over Usain Bolt so that the emphasis is put on Bolt specifically as opposed to anybody else in the image.

Finished Piece

My main inspiration when creating this piece (alot like my Leo Messi piece) was the fact that exceptional athletes such as Usain Bolt can stand out even when he is surrounded by some of the worlds top sprinters. I believe the motion blur in this image manages to portray the speed of the event and how incredible these sprinters are because the motion blur makes it seem as if the speed of the athletes cannot be accurately tracked by the human eye. I didnt think the motion blur was enough to add to the image so I felt that I could really add emphasis to a person in this image through the use of an iris blur. I believe the addition of the iris blur adds more speed and emphasis to the great athlete Bolt, crucially the motion blur adds speed to the overall image and the iris blur adds more speed to Usain Bolt as he is wining the race and therefore he is clearly moving faster than the other competitors.
